Surround Yourself with True Friends

I cannot believe we are half-way through the year already and it's already July. Time has been flying by. I blame adulthood. Last week I  had  a couple different conversations with people about what friendship should be and what real genuine friendships look like. I have had an interesting run with friendships in the past  and I have learned many things  along the way.

When you're trying to build a business of any sort, it is alway key to have solid friends by your side. They serve as your support system, coming alongside you to encourage you, push you, and  be a voice of reason when you want to give up. Genuine friends are hard to come by, but when you find them, keep them. Hold them close because they are the ones who will be standing in your corner cheering you on.

A couple of days ago, I received such a heartfelt letter from a dear friend of mine. It was unexpected but, oh so timely. As I opened the sunflower printed card, I noticed a check fell out but I continued to read each hand written word as my eyes welled with tears.

"...I know that $$ is a little impersonal for us and I know this isn't a lot, but it has a purpose and reason behind me giving it to you instead of sending you an actual gift...I would like you to see it as an investment that I am making in you. I am so proud and happy that things are staring to turn around for you in your photography venture. You have talent and capture beautiful moments that will make memories last a lifetime. And most importantly, you are following your dreams and doing something you love and inspiring people in the process..."

I cannot tell you how touching this hand-written card was. The above snippet is just a glimpse into the heart of my beautiful friend. It seems as if we have always been friends, but truth is,  I only met her 7 years ago and throughout those 7 years our friendship has only grown to what it is today. She is such a humble, selfless, and God-fearing individual  who is dedicated to making the most of her friendships (she also takes pretty great photos and is fun to be around) and I don't know how I got so blessed to be called her friend, but I am glad our paths crossed. I hate that the miles separate us but so thankful that it doesn't hinder our friendship.

She would hate it if I mentioned her name right now, so I will just say this:  Girl, you have know idea how much your hand-written card and your investment in me and my business means to me. You will forever hold a special place in my heart  and will be remembered as Sincere Touch Photography grows. I thank God for you and the amazing and supportive friend you have been to me. It is true what Edmund Lee said, "Surround yourself with the dreamers and the doers, the believers and thinkers, but most of all surround yourself with those who see greatness within you, even when you don't see it yourself." There have been multiple times that you've pointed out that greatness within me when I didn't see it and you still do. Saying thank you is not an adequate pair of words to equate to how thankful I am for your words, friendship and support. Thank you for being one of my amazing friends who cheer me on. You're kind of awesome.

I would encourage you to surround yourself with friends who see you for who you are and believe in the greatness that lies within you. Surround yourself with them, but also bethat friend for someone.

I hope you're enjoying your summer!
